The First day of Fall

For those of us living in the Northern Hemisphere, the first day of fall is going to fall on the 22nd of September. The day that falls begins varies for people living in different regions of the world. The start of the fall is marked by the Fall Equinox. The word equinox is rooted in the Latin word “æquinoctium” which is itself derived from the term “æquus” which means ‘equal.’ The term ‘nox,’ as is commonly known, means ‘night.’ Hence, the term equinox means a day which has an equal night. The highlight of the equinox is that both the day and night are of equal length, that is, 12 hours each.

There are many themes that are attached to the Fall equinox, and hence to the first day of fall, around the world. The common themes the surround the celebration of the first day of fall include appreciation of balance (due to the equality of day and night), slowing of pace (as winter approaches), abundance (due to harvest time), conservation (due to anticipated lack of fresh food in winter), introspection (due to changing seasons) and reflection on the nature of the world and life.

The first day of fall is celebrated by all people around the world as the seasons change for everyone and there is no religion, sex or color attached to it. Those communities that come from agricultural traditions usually host harvest parties to celebrate their harvest season. Those who do not have agricultural roots also celebrate the occasion from the philosophical or spiritual point of view.

What better way to mark such a joyous occasion by sharing with people you love? Gifts on such an occasion are not necessarily expected, so if you do give someone a first day of fall gift, you can be sure they will be thrilled to receive it. What’s more, you would also have impressed the value attached to the first day of fall by giving a gift to people you love. They too would get a chance to reflect on the changing seasons and the ever changing quality of our lives. It would be a gift they would really come to appreciate.

Now, gifting for the first day of fall is very unlike gifting for Christmas or other such occasions. You will not have to give everyone you know an obligatory gift that they will then go and return the next day. For the first day of fall, you can only give gifts to people who are truly close to you and to those who will truly appreciate the gift.

And the best part of it all is that with all the online discounts and deals, the few gifts that you buy will hardly cost you a thing. All you will need to do is look around a bit on the net before choosing your first day of the fall gifts. You will not only get thoughtful gifts, you will get them at great prices as well.

    International Day of Peace

The international Day of Peace is celebrated on September 21, every year. The day is dedicated peace and all efforts made to promote peace in the world and stop war around the world. The day is celebrated by a number of different countries, communities, governments and individuals. A large variety of events take place to mark this day and people across all ages, religions and color come together to participate in these events and celebrate peace.

21st September was marked as the International Day of Peace by the UN in 1981. The International Day of Peace begins with the ringing of the ‘Shit Bell’ which was gifted to the UN by a Japanese group to remind us all of the terrible cost paid in terms of human lives when there is no peace. The bell is inscribed with the line- ‘Long Live Absolute World Peace.’

The International Day of Peace is a very significant day and should be marked as such by every individual. Millions of people have sacrificed their lives, and are doing so even now, so that there is peace. Contradictory as it may sound, such is our world. People give up their lives so that others can have peace. It is important to remember the sacrifices made and the ideal for which they were made.

It is also important to spread awareness about this day. With the emergence of the internet, more and more people and communities from different parts of the world are participating in upholding the ideals of peace. There are many ways in which you can be a part of such an important day. You too can contribute to the spreading of the awareness about the International Day of Peace and its ideals. And, what better way to do it than by giving thoughtful gifts to people who will appreciate it the most.

There are many things you can do, for instance, you can organize a small event in your home town. Send out invites, organize a few games, have important community leaders give speeches to the impressionable young ones about the virtues of peace. And, you can raise money from the community to do so. You don’t need a very large budget. In these days of hundreds of online discounts, you can get everything you need at a much lower cost than what you would pay at a retail store. All you have to do is a little research and you will find online discounts, coupons and sales.

If you so wished, you could even send presents to those who have suffered from the absence of peace. That is, you can send gifts to people, especially children in the war torn regions of the world. Your gifts can be practical like food, clothing, medical supplies, etc. or they can just be something that can bring a smile to somebody’s face like a toy or a candy. And, you won’t have to spend a fortune on these, considering that you can get online discounts for practically everything you can buy.

  • Make a Hat Day

Make a Hat day is celebrated on September 15th every year and its all about making a nice hat. This is a great day where you put all your creativity into making a hat that says a lot about your personality. You get to design, create and wear a hat and not be made fun of. This is a fun day for all the kids and as this activity is found to be fun, it is also spreading to work places. This small activity is a great stress buster and brings all the employees together and helps them bond too. Kindergarten teachers are usually very busy on this day and so are all the children’s parents.

If your child’s birthday is far away and your child has been asking you to have a party at home, this is a great day to do so. The kids can also be kept occupied by this activity and it will be fun for you too. You can also have a prize for the best or the funniest hat. Shopping for all the hat making materials can be tricky business. We see a lot of parents frustrated with not finding what their children demand. So a place which sells all the hat making materials at one place is like a blessing. Some of these shops also have books which tell you easy ways to make hats that fit. They also show you how to make different types of hats.

If you are having a Make a Hat party then you will need loads of hat making material. Some parties include the parents too. Even though it may seem like a silly thing for grown ups to do, once you start it can be a lot of fun. While some can try making hats with paper, others can try with cardboard and other fabric. All this will cost you a lot if you don’t get a discount and can be a big burden if you are hosting the party. On the occasion of Make a Hat day, a lot of stores across the country offer discounts on all the items necessary for making a hat. Some of the online stores offer discounts too. These offers are also available on books related to hat making. Encouraging art is every parents and teachers duty and this is an excellent way to start.

As this is celebrated in offices where there is a larger number, companies can place bulk orders. This will allow you to specify exactly what you want and also the exact quantities. If competitions are held, you can also buy prizes from these stores at a discount price. At the end of the party, you will not only have had fun but will have something beautiful to show back home or give your child. Discounts are offered occasionally throughout the year so if your child is interested in arts and crafts, keep coming back to take advantage of the great offers.

    International Chocolate Day

International chocolate day is celebrated on the 13th of September all over the world. It is not just popular with children but also among adults. As the chocolate day approaches, we see a lot of variety in chocolates in the shops and it’s a good time for chocolate lovers. They also include chocolates and candies brought in from various parts of the world. It is not only about giving your loved ones a lot of chocolates but also about making your own chocolates and chocolate goodies. This day is not just celebrated in homes it is celebrated in schools and workplaces as well. All sweet stores will be buzzing with activity around this time and some interesting offers can also be seen.

Chocolate products are loved everywhere by everybody be it chocolate ice cream, chocolate chip cookies, etc. In addition to giving chocolates as gifts, you can also make use of them in recipes for cookies and other home made things which naturally will be valued more. Around the chocolate day, chocolate shopping will be at an all time high. For children this is just another excuse to buy more chocolate and parents can be seen being dragged to a lot of stores with wonderful displays. You can also place special orders on online stores in advance so you can get your order on time. If you run a business and want to show your employees that you care, chocolates are the best way to do it. If it is a large company, ordering it will fetch you an additional discount over the normal one.

Before you send out gifts to your loved ones, make sure you know what they like and what they dislike. Some can be allergic to nuts so you may want to be careful choosing chocolates. Some don’t like nuts or raisins or coconut in their chocolate so knowing this will make shopping easier. If you don’t know their preferences, buy normal chocolates that everybody likes. Shopping for small kids is easier as they usually like anything interesting. For kids, go for chocolates shaped like animals or ones that are colorful and can be shared easily. If your child wants to share chocolates with the class, buy the ones that don’t melt easily and cone with individual wrapping.

Discounts on all types of chocolates are available in a lot of chocolate stores. Whether you like dark chocolate, milk chocolate, Belgian or Swiss chocolates, you can find them all at one place. The discounts given on all these chocolates will help too. As you will probably have a lot of people to send them to, it helps if you can find everything at a discount price. If you have birthdays or anniversaries coming up soon, you can make use of the discounts and stock up. Even though discounts will surely be found around the International Chocolate day, don’t forget to come back during the rest of the year as we do come up with exciting offers from time to time.
